The team of Kyrgyzstan won five medals at the 67th International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO), which was held from July 10 to 21 in Shanghai.
According to the Ministry of Education, 666 schoolchildren from 117 countries participated in this prestigious global mathematics competition. The Kyrgyz team was formed based on the results of the fourth stage of the National Mathematical Olympiad.
Following the competition, Kyrgyz schoolchildren won three silver and two bronze medals, and one participant received an honorary diploma.
Silver medals were awarded to:
- Ariet Akimov, an 8th-grade student at Gazprom Kyrgyzstan school;
- Arlan Sayat, an 8th-grade student at Gazprom Kyrgyzstan school;
- Yan Bobrus, a 10th-grade student at Gazprom Kyrgyzstan school.
- Sultan Musakhodjaev, a 10th-grade student at the Maarif Educational Complex;
- Timur Akeneev, an 11th-grade student at Gazprom Kyrgyzstan school.
Bekten Abduvaliev, an 8th-grade student at Silk Road Education ISK school, was awarded an honorary diploma.
According to the ministry, Kyrgyzstan took 35th place at in the Olympiad, making it among the top 40 teams in the world for the third consecutive year.
Since 1993, when Kyrgyzstan first participated in the IMO, the national team has won 27 medals. Of these, 14 awards, including one gold, eight silver, and five bronze, were won in the past three years.
