- PISA (Programme for International Student Assessment) is an international study assessing the educational performance of 15-year-old students. Rather than testing students’ ability to reproduce the school curriculum, the assessment measures functional literacy — their ability to reason, analyze information and solve practical problems.
- Kyrgyzstan has participated in PISA twice, in 2006 and 2009. On both occasions, it ranked last.
In 2025, more than 6,000 students from 195 general education institutions across Kyrgyzstan took part in the assessment. The sample included students from different regions and types of educational institutions, including urban, rural and remote schools. All participants were assessed under the same PISA requirements.
For the first time, Kyrgyzstan participated in PISA in a computer-based format. The testing was conducted in Kyrgyz, Russian and Uzbek. The materials were translated and adapted in accordance with international requirements.
A total of 91 countries participated in the PISA 2025, with around 762,000 students taking part in the international assessment.
